After a good break over Christmas with my family down at the famed Margaret River, I’m heading into 2012 as reigning Under 23 World Time Trial Champion, Team Pursuit World Champion, and as a GreenEdge neo pro – not bad at all.
With the weather so good, I’ve been able to get plenty of training in along with Cameron and Travis Meyer and I think we’re all coming up really well – but I’m really looking forward to actually getting into some racing. I’ve had a bit to juggle though between my preparations for my short Australian road season and then with an eye to the London Olympic Games. So while I’ve had some long road rides I’ve also done some shorter efforts for the track. For me, it’s all about London so I didn’t look for as big of a road base as I normally would; I concentrated more on my track stuff.
So with that in mind it will be interesting how I pull up at the road nationals. I’ve never done Bay Crits before either. It’s going into no man’s land; it is new territory for me so hopefully it all comes out for the best.

Arguably one of the most sought-after designers in the realm of contemporary designs, Philippe Starck has been enlisted by Intersection magazine and celebrated French fashion house Louis Vuitton to design an exclusive bicycle. Making Louis Vuitton’s damier graphite canvas an integral aspect onto the custom vehicles, the result is a modern take of the soapbox with a clean, minimalist body and wheels, while the bicycle retains a certain sophisticated aura thanks to the addition of luxurious tan leather belts. Offered up is a look into the photoshoot highlighting the collaboration vehicles, which will make its way to Intersection’s next issu
Fledgling UCI ProTour outfit GreenEdge will make their racing debut on January 1 at the Jayco Bay Cycle Classic with a twist to their inclusion with nine riders set to be split between two teams sure to add to the always exciting criterium series in Geelong.
The first will race as GreenEdge and will be led by defending champion, Matt Goss who narrowly took victory over Rabobank’s Michael Matthews in 2011. Goss will be joined by tried and tested lead out man and former HTC-Highroad teammate Leigh Howard, six-time winner of the series Robbie McEwen, Wes Sulzberger and Mitch Docker.
“It’s definitely going to be an honour to be in the first team and one of the first riders to pull on the GreenEdge jersey and create history when we go and race for the first time,” Goss said at the race launch in Melbourne today.
“The team definitely wanted me to do it, and I definitely like to do it. You can really get a sense of where you are at and get a good gauge when you’re racing all the best sprinters. Everyone who is going to be competitive at the Tour Down Under is competitive at the Bay Crits.”
